Pratt Institute Passive House Explorations

Through PHFE founder, In Cho, Passive House seminar teaching at Pratt Institute, architecture students explored Passive House principles through collage, poetry, and interpretive body movement. Selected works were shown at the internationally attended Passive House Network Conference 2022 which showcased the connection between Passive House sustainable building capabilities and efficiency, electrification, embodied carbon, and social equity sustainability goals.

Our built environment is responsible for nearly 40-70 percent of the carbon emissions that contribute to climate change along with its negative environmental and social impacts.  To mitigate these crises, NYC aims to reduce 80% of carbon emission by the year 2050, a mission that supports the United Nations global Sustainability Development Goals (SDG).  Furthering this objective, NY City and State established substantial targets for electrification and energy reduction in buildings, (NYC Climate Mobilization Act, NYC LL97, NYS Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act).  Implementing this plan is creating a growing market for careers in both of these sectors.  Pratt architecture students will be well positioned to contribute as future industry leaders in helping to solve our environmental, health and social crises.
